What is AWS Points of Presence (Edge Locations)

  • AWS Points of Presence (PoPs) are physical locations where Amazon Web Services (AWS) has data centers and infrastructure deployed to provide its cloud services
  • The key purposes of AWS Points of Presence are:
    • Reduced Latency
    • Improved Availability: If one data center encounters an issue, AWS can reroute traffic to other healthy PoPs, thereby reducing the risk of downtime.
    • Content Delivery: Some AWS PoPs are used to host CloudFront (CDN) edge locations
